LOCATION

In the heart of ‘France Profonde’, above the Dordogne and to the south of the Loire Valley, with it’s famous chateaux and vineyards, LA PINSONNERIE lies in 16 private acres of fields and woods, on the edge of  Angles sur L’Anglin, , ‘one of the most beautiful villages in France’. . It was a working farm until about 22 years ago, and ,at one time provided bread for the village, which was baked in the bread oven in the courtyard. 12 minutes from  Saint Savin,,with its famous  Romanesque cathedral, twenty minutes from the beautiful medieval market town of Chauvigny, and 10 minutes from La Roche Posay, a well known spa town, to which people come from far and wide to take the extensive skin cures.

This is a wonderfully unspoilt landscape of farmland, forests, rivers and lakes. Within easy striking distance are excellent facilities for windsurfing, cycling, canoeing , golfing, riding, climbing, gliding and fishing. The Blue Guide to France, or the Michelin Green Guide tell you everything that you may want to know about the famous chateaux of the Loire region to the North.

There  are plenty of vineyards to visit, if you are prepared to drive for one to one and a half hours. Probably two of the best known are Vouvray and Montlouis which are just east of Tours. There is Muscadet from Sevre et Maine, and fruity dry wines from Sancerre and Pouilly. For red wine drinkers there are Saumur Champigny, Gamay de Touraine, Chinon, Bourgeuil. There are plenty of inexpensive bars and restaurants in the surrounding villages, usually having excellent fixed priced menus. Particularly good value are the places where the workmen eat, where a large lunch costs about 10 Euros.

Access is good. The Paris / Bordeaux autoroute is only 45 minutes away, and the TGV (High Speed Train) stops at Poitiers and Chatellerault. Ryan Air now fly to Poitiers during the summer season, and Tours and Limoges all year round.  FUTUROSCOPE, one of the biggest attractions in France is also in Poitiers. We would like to point out that you do need a car when staying at La Pinsonnerie.

THE BRIDGE AND CASTLE AT ANGLES

LA PINSONNERIE comprises an L shaped farm house, and a cottage, ( not let with the main house; please see details at the end ) set round three sides of a courtyard garden. There is a high stone wall with ornate iron gates on the fourth side. A large chestnut tree provides shade for our boulodrome ( well, the sandy area we have made to play boules on!) Behind the house is another garden, and to the side is the pool , which has floodlights for night time bathing  ,a terrace, with sunloungers, BBQ, and bench tables for eating outside.

The house and cottage are of rendered stone, and oak construction, and ooze character and charm.  All the downstairs rooms (except the studio) and the granary have lovely old terracotta tiled floors, and there are beautiful oak beams everywhere. It is a very private setting, but you are only a few minutes walk from the river, and village.Coming through the gates, you enter a pretty grass courtyard, with flower beds, and window boxes, and a large chestnut tree, beneath which we play boules

Stone steps lead up to the front door. Inside is a small vestibule, with a door on the right into a

DOUBLE BEDROOM, overlooking the rear garden, and courtyard.

DOWNSTAIRS LOO next door.

Then, internal french windows lead into the beautiful

FARMHOUSE KITCHEN/DINING ROOM: approx 35 feet long, with handbuilt and painted kitchen cupboards, butler’s sink and Rayburn. There is a gas cooker with electric oven, dishwasher, and large fridge freezer.

The dining end has an old pine table with an antique wrought iron and crystal chandelier above, and stone fireplace.

Stairs rise to the Granary living room. Down four steps from the kitchen you are in the hall,

off which is a

BATHROOM,   with powerful shower above the bath, basin and bidet. There is a separate

LOO, next to thebathroom, with the washing machine in a tiny room next to the loo.

The hall has french windows back into the courtyard, and a back door leading out to the pool area. At the end of the hall is the

STUDIO BEDROOM;   so called because it doubles as a music studio, and bedroom, which we usually use for up to 4 children. Also at the end of the hall is a staircase leading up to a

DOUBLE BEDROOM WITH EN SUITE BATHROOM:   The bedroom looks over the courtyard, and the bathroom has bath and hand held shower , loo, basin and bidet.(NB. Some people have used this bathroom to put a cot in, if space is tight)

Returning to the kitchen, stairs rise to the

GRANARY LIVING ROOM:

used at one time for storing grain, this is a large and impressive room with its’ original terracotta tiled floor, beautiful oak A frames, and many other oak beams. There are three sofas grouped round a large farmhouse coffee table (not sure they had coffee tables in farmhouses, but I hope you know what I mean!) and woodburning stove. There is a large desk, grandfather clock, and various other bits of nice furniture. Off the granery is a

DOUBLE BEDROOM

TWIN BEDROOM, which is also en suite with the bathroom mentioned above.

OUTSIDE the back door of the main house is a path that leads down to the

POOL: 40 foot heatable pool with terrace, and laurel hedge, with the garden to the side, and fields beyond.

There are sunloungers, a BBQ, and bench tables. In the summer, we tend to stay here until bedtime.

N.B. There is a hot and cold

SHOWER on the path down to the pool. I never shower inside between May and October.
